Academic Law Texts in Use is a comprehensive, practical, and useful source for law students, lawyers, and others interested in legal issues, who need to improve their English vocabulary and comprehension in this field. The main idea behind publishing this book is to provide a thorough legal source that contains the main branches of law, and their subcategories. Although the book is designed to be used as a textbook in universities and law schools, we believe that it can also satisfy the needs of others who are interested in developing their legal English vocabulary as well. Given the fact that the present book is all-inclusive, and the main branches of law and their relevant texts and vocabularies are distinct in every chapter of the book, it can be used effectively for individual studies as well as by university teachers in classes. Readers have the opportunity to go through the book and choose their favorable topics according to their interest, need, and educational task.
The book consists of five chapters with various subtitles, whose contents are extracted from some of the most reliable academic sources. In the first chapter, general issues related to law and legal studies are discussed. This chapter will prepare the readers to grasp the nature of law and its objectives. Meanwhile, it discusses different legal systems with a comparative approach. The first chapter ends with a section discussing techniques for a professional legal translation. The second chapter is designed to introduce main subbranches of private law. Different sections of this chapter discuss issues in both common law and civil law systems, which will help readers improve their comparative thinking as a must for deep understanding of law. The third chapter focuses on public law, and its most important subbranches, namely constitutional law, administrative law, and tax law. The fourth chapter concentrates on criminal law. Various subjects such as the nature of criminal law, structure of a crime, specific crimes, general defenses and criminal procedural law are discussed in this chapter. Finally, chapter five introduces public international law, its origin, sources, and subjects. This chapter focuses on topics including the law of the sea and human rights. At the end of the book readers will find an annex, containing the most common legal maxims. We truly hope this book is found to be useful and practical. Further, we look forward to hearing any comments and suggestions you might have.
